UN’s Richard Falk to speak on Palestinian Struggle

Professor Richard Falk

United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights

speaking in Sydney, Thursday 19 September, 6.30 pm

Footbridge Theatre, University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus

The Palestinian Struggle for Self Determination and the Ordeal of Occupation

Richard Falk, Emeritus Professor of International Law at Princeton University, is one of the world’s great authorities on universal human rights—ideals that are enshrined in the rules of international law.

He will be lecturing on The Palestinian Struggle for Self Determination and the Ordeal of Occupation at 6.30 pm Thursday 19 September.

Professor Falk insists that in the experience of Palestinians, these rules are being ignored and that the international community is failing the Palestinian people, due largely to a fear of offending the governments of Israel and the USA.

He further asserts that it requires courage to discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict and that even more courage is required for governments to make a stand against the deprivation of a people’s rights. Security for Israelis, he says, rests on justice for Palestinians.

Professor Falk will be answering questions from the audience and there will be the opportunity to directly engage with the Professor.
