Extraordinary people around the world have powerful solutions for the world’s biggest problems. To make change by recognising and backing these global peacemakers is no small feat. The Sydney Peace Foundation is a small organisation with a big mission. To be able to fulfil our purpose, we know that we must work together.
We partner with likeminded organisations and fully rely on the generosity of our donors and supporters. What we have in common is a belief that if we cultivate and nurture leadership at all levels, an make sure these voices are heard, we can create a peaceful, fair, just and compassionate world that cares for people and planet.
We are most grateful for the generous support we have received from our Patrons, Partners in Peace, Peacekeepers, Peacemakers and Event Partners.
I commend the Sydney Peace Foundation on its dedication to promoting peace and honouring champions of human rights. As Australia’s only international award for peace, the annual Sydney Peace Prize reminds us of the urgent need to address conflict and discord where we see it. It inspires us to think more deeply about the world in which we live and the values we hold dear.
As the former Governor of New South Wales and as a former Chancellor of The University of Sydney, I am immensely proud of the important work which the Foundation undertakes. The Foundation eloquently advocates for peace with justice, which is central to achieving fair and just livelihoods, with adequate access to food, health, education, and most certainly to human rights, dignity and freedom.
The City of Sydney has demonstrated its commitment to the Sydney Peace Foundation since 2000, and we are very grateful for its dedicated support of the Foundation and the Sydney Peace Prize.
The City is committed to ensuring a socially just and sustainable future based on tolerance, compassion, social justice and nonviolence. As beautiful as it is dynamic, the City of Sydney is the commercial, financial and cultural heart of Australia and an active player in the world economy. Sydney as one of the world’s most liveable cities and leading business and leisure destinations. Both visitors and Sydneysiders benefit from the reassurance that Sydney flourishes in a climate of ‘peace’.
The Sydney Peace Foundation is a not-for-profit Foundation established at the University of Sydney in 1998. The Foundation is grateful for the University’s in-kind services and proud of our strong connection.
The University of Sydney was founded in 1850 and is Australia’s leading higher education and research University. It has more than 3,000 academic staff, more than 50,000 students from over 130 countries, and over 270,000 alumni, including prime ministers, Nobel laureates, Oscar winners, business leaders, medical pioneers, artists, and intellectual activists. Their cutting-edge research reaches across disciplinary barriers to find unique solutions to improve and transform our lives.
