Nominations

Nominations for the 2027 Sydney Peace Prize are now open

Since 1998, Australia’s only international prize for peace has brought inspiring and exemplary stories of courage and dedication to justice to the Australian stage. The Prize creates a platform for recipients to spread their message far and wide, recognises the work of the world’s most effective peacemakers and honours the remarkable people at the heart of these stories.

Each recipient inspires us to be the change we want to see – to stand united in calling for a better, more just and more peaceful world.

Nominations are now open for 2027.

Please submit your nominations before the closing date of 23 November 2026.

Anyone can make a nomination

The Sydney Peace Foundation welcomes nominations of high impact individuals, organisations and movements from across the world. Since 1998, the Jury has selected recipients from wide and diverse fields, from social justice leaders and human rights lawyers to artists and authors.

Some recipients help families overcome poverty, champion the rights of Indigenous peoples, or fight systems of oppression. Others have made it their mission to reconcile people and nations, take on the powers destroying the environment, or promote nonviolence, demanding aggressors put down their weapons and abolish weapons of mass terror.

The recipient receives $50,000 to further their cause, and spends a week in Australia to promote understanding of their work by addressing the public at the Lecture and Award Ceremony, engaging with the media and policy makers, and meeting with students at Cabramatta High School’s Peace Day.

Who have you been admiring from afar? Who has global impact? Who you want to see on the Sydney stage?

Whose message needs to be heard by the Australian community, media, corporate world and politicians?

How is a recipient selected?

The recipient is decided by a jury of carefully selected and highly respected members who represent community, academic, corporate, and media sector interests.

Deliberation happens over a number of months as the jury assesses each nominee’s efforts to promote peace with justice.

The recipient’s contributions across three key selection criteria are considered:

  • The achievement of peace with justice locally, nationally or internationally
  • Advocacy for human rights, social and climate justice, and equality
  • The philosophy, language, and practice of nonviolence
